ABOUT

Quoted as having “… [V]ocal strength and theatrical finesse” (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel), tenor, Nathaniel Catasca has recently performed as a Studio Artist with Sarasota Opera.  His duties for the 2024 season included performing the role of Le Remendado in Bizet's Carmen, and covering the role of Filippo in Joseph Haydn's L'infedeltà delusa .

 

Before his time in Sarasota, Florida, Mr. Catasca was very excited to be working with Glimmerglass Opera, where he was in the chorus for La Bohème, and Roméo et Juliette, as well as covering The Governor in Bernstein’s Candide.  Opera Arlington was where he debuted the role of Ferrando in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte.  Other highlights include being finalist for the Grand Junction Young Artist Symphony Competition.  In the same year, he was with Fort Worth Opera as the tenor Lesley Resident Artist in their 2022/2023 season.  The season included performances of Amahl & the Night Visitors with Nathaniel in the role of King Kaspar, Donald Woods/ Big Mike in a World Premiere titled Stand Up, and The Messenger in Aida.  As an Apprentice Artist with Central City Opera in the Summer of 2022, he performed the role of Dr. Blind in Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss.  Mr. Catasca made his Lyric Opera of Chicago debut portraying Nemorino/Tamino in the children’s production of The Magic Victrola in April of 2022.  Previously, Mr. Catasca finished his Studio Artist contract for Florentine Opera Company’s 2021/2022 season.  During this time, he performed the roles of Matteo Borsa in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Javier Moreno in Torroba’s Zarzuela Luisa Fernanda, Le Comte Barigoule in Viardot’s Cendrillon, Arithmitique/ The Tree Frog in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges, among many other recitals and concerts.  Nathaniel was due to cover the role of Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Bohème before its cancellation.

Previous engagements include being a Tomita Young Artist for Finger Lakes Opera in the summer of 2021, and virtually in the summer of 2020.  Mr. Catasca was a Baumgartner Studio Artist for Florentine Opera, participating in many virtual concerts offered in lieu of cancelled events due to COVID-19, and a performance of Kurt Weill’s Little Mahagonny playing the role of Charlie. In the same vain, Nathaniel was expected to be the Tenor Young Artist for Hawai'i Opera Theatre and partake in the children's tour of Rossini's Cinderella, and Salome, which was sadly cancelled due to COVID-19.  He was able to perform the role of Spoletta in Puccini's Tosca at Hawai'i Opera Theatre in 2019.  Nathaniel began his career post graduate degree with Florentine Opera Company as their Tenor Summer Concert Residency Artist under Scott Stewart and Janna Ernst in the summer of 2019.

Nathaniel is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, earning his Master’s in Performance & Literature in Vocal Performance under the study of Robert Swensen.  He holds a Bachelor’s of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Oklahoma studying with Dr. Joel Burcham.
